Heineken “Sometimes Lighter Is Better” Ad Deemed Racist By Chance The Rapper

SHARE

In a new ad put out by Heineken, Chance The Rapper is calling their bluff on putting out a “purposely racist” commercial. Chance tweeted late Sunday night that…

…and we have to say that after watching the ad, he might have a point. In the commercial, promoting Heineken’s new light, low calorie beer, a white woman is seen looking displeased with her glass of wine. A bartender spots her from afar, and slides her a new Heineken Light Beer as it glides past a few people, all of which happen to be black. Once the beer reaches her, a tag line pop up, “sometimes lighter is better.”

While this truly could be just a coincidence, it seems a little fishy. Heineken released a statement to Business Insider, stating that “for decades, Heineken has developed diverse marketing that shows there’s more that unites us than divides us. While we feel the ad is referencing our Heineken Light beer — we missed the mark, are taking the feedback to heart and will use this to influence future campaigns.”

While Chance isn’t calling on his fans to revolt and boycott Heineken, he simply points out that it seems like Heineken stooped to racism to get views. What do you think? Does Chance have a point or is it a bit of a stretch?
