Now, that possibility is becoming a reality. Chance The Rapper and Childish Gambino, also known by his real name Donald Glover, have previously collabed on a lot of songs together, intertwining their fans so much so that you can’t be a fan of one without being a fan of the other. After they both struck tremendous fame outside of Soundcloud, fans have demanded a return of the dynamic duo. But both have been pursuing various projects outside of music, seemingly leaving little time for another joint project.
During a discussion panel for Pitchfork’s “In Sight Out” that Chance The Rapper took part in on Monday March 5th, he disclosed that he and Gambino originally thought the comradery among fans to make an album was fun to mess around with.
“We perpetuated that rumor for a long time without recording anything,” he stated. “We did link up in Atlanta and record some tracks and… they’re amazing.”
Chance did however withhold some information, as he also said that he feels “it’s important that artist have a certain amount of control over when they release something… it has to work for you.”
Gambino also put some words out regarding the project. “I don’t ever want to do anything because I’m forced to,” said Glover when addressing projects outside of Atlanta. “I think once you do that, things start to get bad and you jump the shark. Also, I feel like if I don’t make a Chance the Rapper mixtape, like double mixtape, a bunch of 14 year olds are gonna kick my ass. They stop me on the street; it kind of scares me. So I feel like I gotta do something. I probably will.”
Whenever they decide to release what they’ve been working on, we’ll be the first to listen. Stay tuned for more on this dynamic duo!
