Walk through the bustling streets of any major city and you’re bound to find struggling artists busking in the hopes of gathering attention – and perhaps some spare change.
While many of these “artists” will never hit it big, some of the world’s most popular musicians – like Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber – did in fact spend time busking early in their careers.
As unlikely as that may be for the average street performer, there are gems to be found once in a while. Such is the case when we stumbled upon The Trouble Notes busking in New York City two years ago. In fact, their cover of Destiny’s Child’s “Survivor” is the huge smash that got them noticed in the first place.
In the beginning of the video, the band dedicates the song to Beyonce.
Faster and faster they play, leading into a rapid fire crescendo of the songs main melody. Bennet Cerven, the violinist in the group, is often noted for his impressive skills on violin.
The inclusion of violin in the group’s music adds a layer of uniqueness that isn’t found in most music these days
Yes, we know this not a Beyonce cover, that was a mistake on our video editors part, ahemmm.
When interviewed about the success of The Trouble Notes, Cerven explained how The Trouble Notes came to fruition.
“The idea was born along the streets of New York in 2013,” Cerven said. “I’m American and I lived there for years, where I used to play my violin as a busker in several occasions. Then I’ve decided to move to London and after knowing Oliver Maguire, our percussionist, we together moved to Germany where we met our guitarist Florian Eisenschmidt from Braunschweig. Now we are all based in Berlin”.
The group, now touring in Europe, has caught the attention of people who love their creative take on popular music. We can’t wait to see what they do next! (Hopefully more Beyoncé is in their future.)
