Rumors are swirling about which artists will be featured on Tha Carter V, and the list includes industry heavy hitters like Drake, Justin Bieber, and Kendrick Lamar.
Tha Carter V is heavily anticipated since it’s been so long in the making — about 5 years to be exact. This is largely because of drama and legal issues with Lil Wayne’s label Cash Money. The album was scheduled to finally drop on Friday, September 21, so fans were disappointed when the release fell through. But with renewed hope that we’ll get to hear Tha Carter V this Friday, September 27, excitement is still in the air.
In a video posted to Twitter and Youtube, Wayne explained the whole scenario:
”I heard there was a misunderstanding about the release date of Tha CV. I heard y’all got a little mixed up and y’all thought it was going to be released like last week or something. Well, I would like for you to know that since y’all stuck with me and hung in there anyway for like the past four, five years, through all of this — y’all got me feeling like Tiger Woods with this comeback — but on my birthday, I actually have something special: I will be releasing Tha Carter V.”
So while we eagerly await the album’s release, let’s talk about the collabs that are expected to appear.
What’s a Wayne record without a Drake verse? And what’s a Drake verse without a Wayne record? Seriously, the two have collaborated for years, releasing absolute bangers like “Believe Me” and “The Motto.” It’s pretty safe to say a verse — or more likely, multiple — will appear on Tha Carter V.
Bieber collabs with hip hop giants quite frequently, and rumor has it that a song on Wayne’s new album with him and French Montana will be called “Just Chill.”
Kendrick is everywhere, with critics applauding him for being one of the up-and-coming greats in the game. He worked with Lil Wayne on “Mona Lisa” and “The Life of Mr. Carter,” which Martin Shkreli previously leaked.
He might not be first on everyone’s mind when thinking about rappers who are out here spitting bars, but Soulja Boy said that he contributed to “like three songs” on Tha Carter V, all of which he expressed confidence in appearing on the final album.
Other artists to watch out on Tha Carter V include former flame Christina Milian, fellow emcee Big Sean, and Atlanta producer Mike WiLL Made-It — who previously worked on tracks like “Bandz a Make Her Dance” with Wayne.
