If Norway didn’t already seem like one of the most magical places on Earth, it was recently host to an amazing sighting of a rare white reindeer.
Pretty fantastic timing, right?
The festive season is well and truly upon us and the spotting was a special surprise for Mads Nordsveen from Oslo. The 24-year-old travel photographer headed out to the mountains to find some amazing landscapes to photograph (Norway is full of them).
A short while into his hike he spotted the beautiful reindeer calf exploring among the snowy mountains.
Experts have estimated that the calf will be a few months old now, given its size and the fact that calves are born in May. As you can see from the pics, the calf is still growing out its wonderful antlers and would have to wait a little while before joining Santa’s sleigh!
Mads went into more depth and described the magical moment:
“He came very close to me and we looked at each other straight in the eyes. He was quite relaxed when he saw that I was calm and friendly. It was almost as if he posed for the camera.
It was very magical and a fairytale moment.”
Mads was indeed incredibly lucky to see the white reindeer and they are renowned as bringing good luck to a herd and those who have the good fortune to see them.
The little reindeer – well camouflaged in its surroundings – stuck around for a little while and allowed Mads to get some amazing photos before its mother called it back and the duo parted.
Mads was very lucky and we’re so happy that he managed to get such beautiful photographs of the event! We are truly lucky and it’s definitely gotten our office into the Christmas spirit… There’s not long now!
