Meet The Man Who Survived On Pizza For 25 Years

For over the past two decades, Dan Janssen has sustained on a diet most can only dream of – cheese pizza for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

As he told New York Daily News, “I must say, even though I sound like a horribly unhealthy and fat person, I’m not. I’m thin. I have tons of energy, and I feel great every day, so there might be something to the exclusive pizza diet”.

Why so much awesomeness at every meal? Janssen became a vegetarian for ethical reasons at 14, but discovered he hated vegetables. Finding he had a true affinity for cheese pizza, he decided to eat what he likes best on a daily basis, while (technically) maintaining a vegetarian diet.

It’s as simple as that.

There’s only a few exceptions to the daily pizza health regimen for Dan: a weekley bowl of Raisin Bran, one peach he ate four years ago, and the time he lived off of pretzels for two weeks visiting Germany because the pizza there left a lot to be desired.

Janssen’s pizza love has landed him an intriguing reputation in his social circle, in which hosts of parties and other get togethers are sure to let him know if pizza will be on the menu.

As Janssen told Vice, “It’s not that I’ll die if I eat something new. I can fake it, like if I go to a wedding or something. My reputation precedes me where I live. I’ll get an invite, and it will say, ‘We’re having a party, but there’s not gonna be any pizza there.’ I’ll eat whatever if it’s a situation like that.”

Around the same time Janssen implemented his daily pizza diet, he was also diagnosed with diabetes. Even so, Janssen insists he’s healthy other than the occasional blood sugar blackout. Every time he sees a doctor, he insists his blood work comes back great and he stays in shape by cycling 30-40 miles at a time.

Dan’s final word to fellow pizza lovers considering it an exclusive diet: “If I could say anything to the men of the world… it’s you can do it. You can eat two 14-inch pizzas a day and be fine.”
